Some Visitors & A Day at the Lake

This past week, we hosted my friend Jessica and her son Will at our house. Josie was very excited to see Will again, as Josie has a special place in her heart for all babies. I think most kids are just naturally interested in babies, and seemingly in kids just a little bit older than them!

Here's Josie and Will having a fun time in the bathtub, on Will's first night in Milwaukee:

Prior to this, Jessica shared that Will had a hard time taking baths, but I guess having a friend and lots of toys and bubbles helps to make it bearable.

Later on during our friends' stay, Josie and Will had fun on the swings:

And even tried to enjoy a wagon ride together. It started out fine, but once Will got a little grabby (and who can resist an Elmo sippy cup, honestly?) Josie had enough and chose to walk the rest of the way home.

Jessica and Will were able to join us for a day trip to Nashotah, Wisconsin, where we visited with Jessie and Robert (Eric's aunt and uncle), their kids Henry and Mary, and several members of Jessie's family. It was a beautiful day to be at the lake, though the water was a little too cold for Josie. She preferred just admiring it from the dock, while Eric got his feet wet.

And here she is, "relaxing" with me on a lounge chair.

Meanwhile, Henry showed us what Josie might be able to do when she is almost seven years old. Who knew you could surf on a calm, peaceful lake?!

It's been a great week. Sure, it's not always the best when a rambunctious little guy wants to nom on your hair or your face (Josie learned a quick lesson-- climb up the couch when you see him coming towards you!) but we really did have a fabulous time with our out-of-town visitors, and we loved spending a day on the lake. I met Jessica when I was 17 years old, so it's fun for me to reflect back on how our friendship (and lives) have changed in 9 years -- and how great it is that we're in similar places in our lives now, if only we could adjust the distance thing.
