We got to our seats about 20 minutes early which was plenty of time to get settled. Surprisingly in our row of about 15 seats, there were maybe 5 taken, including ours. I'm not sure how that worked out considering the whole theater was full, but I'll take it. AND nobody was sitting in the seat in front of us, so we had an open view of the stage.
Waiting before the show was the hardest part, especially since the show started 20 minutes late. That's like torture to a kid! But the curtain came up and the crowd grew silent.
And out came DJ Lance Rock on a JumboTron! (Here's a snippet of the opening number from a youtube video posted by someone I don't know)So once the show started, the singing and dancing began. They played all their hits, from Party In My Tummy, to my personal favorite Freeze! They even sang a few new songs, including one about balloons and in the middle of the song a bunch of balloons fell from the ceiling and onto the crowd.
The concert featured a few special guests. Here are the Aquabats. The lead singer is the co-creator of the show.
For those who have never seen the show, each one features a beatboxing segment with Biz Markie (rapper best known for hit single "Just A Friend" circa 1989) doing what's dubbed "Biz's Beat of the Day." There's also a dancey dance segment featuring a surprise celebrity who teaches the kids a special dance. In past shows they've ranged from Snoop Dogg, The Roots, Sarah Silverman, and Run DMC. Our surprise celebrity: two NFL Football players -- one current Packer, and one former Packer. No, it wasn't Brett Favre.
After a short intermission, the show was over in about 90 minutes. The Yo Gabba Gabba gang went back in DJ Lance's boombox and that was it. There were a lot of crying kids when it was over. Josie didn't cry, but I could tell she didn't want to leave.
But we drove home and got to tell Mommy about our wonderful, fun-filled day. Josie got some DJ Lance glasses and an electronic light from the concert. A concert we BOTH won't soon forget.
